FAQs

Keep the area clean and dry for the first 24 to 48 hours after stitches have been placed, then wash 1 to 2 times daily with cool water and salt. Clean as close to the stitches as you can.

Go see a doctor if the wound is deep, won't stop bleeding, is caused by a dirty or rusty object, or if there are signs of infection such as redness, swelling, or pus.

Avoid smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and picking at the wound. Follow your healthcare provider's advice on activities and medications to avoid during the healing process.

If you notice your stitches are loosening or coming out, contact your healthcare clinic. Do not attempt to remove the stitches on your own.
